A fire broke out at the Kalaroa Upazila Primary Education Office in Satkhira on Saturday at around 9:30 am. The blaze started in a room on the second floor of the office building located within the upazila premises.
Upon receiving the news, firefighters quickly rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control. Teachers and local residents also assisted in extinguishing the flames. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Zahurul Islam and other administrative officials promptly visited the scene.
Initial investigations suggest that the fire originated from an electrical short circuit caused by the battery of a computer’s UPS. Fire Service Officer Shariful Islam stated that locals alerted them after seeing smoke, and they responded swiftly to douse the fire.
Although the exact amount of damage has not yet been determined, officials said it was not significant. However, several important office documents were burnt in the fire.
When asked about the incident, Kalaroa Upazila Primary Education Officer H. M. Rokonuzzaman said, “As Saturday is a government holiday, I was at home. Upon hearing about the fire at the education office, I immediately rushed from Jashore to Kalaroa. The fire mainly destroyed some old, discarded papers. Since all official information is now stored online, no major damage has occurred.”
