Five arrested in sensational Fayez murder case in Mirsarai
In a sensational development in the Fayez murder case of Mirsarai, Chattogram, Jorarganj Police have arrested five accused, including the victim’s wife Firoza Begum.
In a press briefing held on Saturday (19 July) at 4 PM, Jorarganj Police stated that on the night of 26 June, unidentified assailants broke into the home of 85-year-old Fayez Ahmed in Boddho Gheramara area of Korerhat Union under Jorarganj Thana. They tied his hands and feet, stuffed cloth into his mouth, suffocated him, punched him in the face, and fled the scene.
Following a complaint filed by Fayez Ahmed’s son, Alomgir, a case (No. 16) was registered at Jorarganj Police Station on 26 June.
During investigation, police interrogated Fayez Ahmed’s wife Firoza Begum (55) and her elder sister Shyamola Begum (60). Based on their information, the police arrested one of the accused, Akhtar (32), from Sitakunda Thana area on the night of 19 July.
Following Akhtar’s confession, two more suspects—Yasin Rubel (25) and Shakib (23)—were arrested the same night during a raid in the Sitakunda Thana area.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that Akhtar had gained the trust of Fayez Ahmed’s wife by working at the victim’s house as a day laborer. Due to Fayez’s stingy nature and failure to provide enough for household expenses and his wife’s medical treatment, his wife, along with her sister and Akhtar, plotted to steal Tk 30,000 from a drawer in Fayez’s room.
On the day of the murder, Akhtar purchased rope from Baraiyarhat Bazar in the afternoon to tie up Fayez. That night, Firoza Begum told Akhtar that she would be leaving for a delivery (midwifery) task nearby and would leave the door open. As planned, after midnight, she left the house and Akhtar entered with his accomplices Yasin Rubel and Shakib.
They found Fayez sleeping on his bed, tied him up, and as he woke up and screamed, they stuffed cloth into his mouth, punched him, and suffocated him to death by covering his nose and mouth.
After the murder, the trio stole Tk 30,000 from the drawer. Akhtar kept Tk 14,000, while Rubel and Shakib shared the remaining Tk 16,000.
In the morning, when Firoza returned, she claimed she saw that Akhtar had taken the money and fled after killing her husband.
Present at the press briefing were Mirsarai Assistant Police Circle Chief Noman Ahmed, Jorarganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Halim, and OC (Investigation) Amirul Islam.
