Huge consignment of cement, fertilizer bound for Myanmar seized in Bhola, smuggler held

A joint operation by the Bangladesh Coast Guard and Police has foiled a cross-border smuggling attempt, seizing a massive illegal consignment of cement and fertilizer bound for Myanmar from Monpura upazila of Bhola. One smuggler was detained during the drive.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon said rhis in a press release on Sunday noon.
According to Coast Guard sources, acting on a tip-off, a joint team comprising personnel from the Coast Guard Outpost Monpura and local police launched a targeted drive near the Latakhali Ghat area adjacent to North Sakuchia Union at around 3:30 AM on Saturday.
During the operation, the joint forces intercepted and searched a suspicious fishing boat navigating the area. The search uncovered 450 sacks of cement and four sacks of DAP fertilizer, valued at approximately Tk 2,29,000, which were being transported illegally to be smuggled into Myanmar. The law enforcers immediately seized the contraband goods and confiscated the fishing boat used in the crime.
The detained smuggler, along with the seized boat and smuggled items, has been handed over to Monpura Police Station for subsequent legal proceedings.
