In protest of the brutal murder of a businessman in front of Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka, hundreds of general students and citizens staged a demonstration in Munshiganj demanding the highest punishment for those responsible on Saturday morning.
Demonstrators gathered in front of the Munshiganj Press Club, where they observed a one-hour human chain program. Following the human chain, a protest procession was brought out condemning the heinous murder. Later, a brief rally was held at Shaheed Chattar, where protesters chanted slogans like "No place for extortionists in Bangladesh."
The program was organized under the banners of Boishomybirodhi Chhatro Andolon Munshiganj and Islami Jub Andolon Munshiganj, joined by more than 150 participants from various volunteer and social organizations, as well as people from different professions and backgrounds.
Speakers at the event strongly condemned the growing trend of extortion, terrorism, extrajudicial killings, and mob justice across the country. They demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of all those involved in the businessman’s murder. They also warned that if justice is not served soon, a larger and more intense movement will be launched.
During the human chain, speakers mentioned that recent nationwide incidents of killings, disappearances, extrajudicial executions, and mob violence have triggered the need for such protests.
