A husband committed suicide by hanging himself with his wife's scarf from the ceiling of a rented house following a dispute between the couple at Tongibari on Tuesday afternoon.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue for autopsy.
It has been reported that the deceased, Ijabur (45), was a laborer living in a rented house belonging to Sirajul Islam in the village of Silimpur under Tongibari upazila. He was originally from Choroi Kuri village in Daulatpur Thana of Kushtia district and was the son of Mohibul Islam. Ijabur frequently had arguments with his wife Yasmin over various issues.
On Monday night, after returning home from work, a quarrel broke out between Ijabur and Yasmin over family matters. Yasmin (36), angry over the incident, left for her father’s house around 9:00 PM. Her parental home is in Bahadurpur village under Shibchar Thana in Madaripur district, where her father Lal Chan resides.
Later, Ijabur locked his room and went to bed. On Tuesday morning around 10:30 AM, the neighbors found the door still locked and, after calling out to him and receiving no response, peeked through a hole in the bamboo wall. They saw Ijabur (45) hanging from the ceiling with a scarf tied around his neck.
The house residents informed his wife and the Tongibari police station. Police arrived at the scene, broke open the door, and recovered the hanging body. It was sent to the morgue for autopsy.
OC of Tongibari Police Station, Mohidul Islam, said the body has been sent to Munshiganj court, and necessary legal procedures are underway.
