JU JCD demands justice in DU student Shammo's murder

The leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) of Jahangirnagar University Unit on Thursday staged a sit-in demonstration programme demanding justice for the murder of Shahriar Alom Shammo, a student of Dhaka University who was allegedly stabbed with death near the University premises late Tuesday.
Protesting the killing, participants at the demonstration wore black badges and chanted various slogans.
The demonstration began around 4:00 pm at the University’s Shahid Minar premises with several leaders and activists of JCD.
Addressing the procession , Jahiruddin Mohammad Babor, convener of JU JCD unit, said, “A university is supposed to be a safe space for students. However, due to the government’s indifference and the administration’s failure, Shammo has been killed . There is no scope for absolving responsibility without the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor and the Proctor in this incident.”
“Shammo was killed in a planned manner. This is not an ordinary murder but a barbaric attack on the democratic student community. Regrettably, some quarters in the university are spreading misinformation that the incident occurred in Suhrawardy Udyan, whereas it actually took place within the university premises.” said Wasim Ahmed Anik member secretary of JU JCD branch.
