A strict "zero tolerance" policy against narcotics was declared at the monthly meeting of the Betagi Upazila Law and Order Committee held on Monday.

Speakers at the meeting emphasized that building a drug-free society requires active public awareness and social resistance alongside administrative actions, while directing law enforcement to take stringent measures to curb criminal activities.

Organized by the upazila administration, the session took place on Monday afternoon at the conference room of the Upazila Parishad office. Betagi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Muh. Saddam Hossain presided over the meeting, which began with a welcome address by Betagi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Harun-or-Rashid.

The meeting was addressed by former Upazila Parishad Chairman Shahjahan Kabir, former General Secretary of Upazila BNP Jalilur Rahman Khan Nanna, and former Joint General Secretary S.M. Nurul Islam Panna. Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nusrat Jahan, Betagi Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Sayyid Muhammad Amrullah, local political leaders, public representatives, media professionals, and citizens from various walks of life were also in attendance.

During the session, the committee evaluated the overall law and order situation across the upazila for the month of June 2026. Emphasizing the implementation of the zero-tolerance stance against drugs, the committee issued directives to relevant departments to maintain strict vigilance and close monitoring to preserve regional stability.

Local residents also utilized the platform to voice various civic grievances and public sufferings. The committee president listened to their concerns attentively and assured them that the upazila administration would take phase-by-phase initiatives to resolve the issues effectively.

Reiterating the police department's uncompromising stance, Betagi Police Station OC Md. Harun-or-Rashid said, an integrated social resistance must be forged against the drug menace to safeguard the future generation and society as a whole.
