“Let’s build sanctuaries, let’s fill the country with native fish”—with this theme, National Fisheries Week-2025 was celebrated in Satkhira. The important week-long program was inaugurated on Monday, with various events. Guests officially kicked off the week by releasing balloons and festoons at the Sadar Upazila Parishad premises.
Organized by the Satkhira District Administration and the Department of Fisheries, a colorful rally started from the Sadar Upazila Parishad and paraded through the main roads of the city. Fishery officers, fish farmers, businessmen, and people from all walks of life participated in the rally. After the parade, fish fry were released into the Sadar Upazila pond, which once again highlighted the government's commitment to increasing the production of native fish.
The discussion meeting, held at the Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium, was presided over by District Fisheries Officer G.M. Salim. The main guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Bishnupada Pal, spoke about the immense contribution of the fisheries sector to the country's economic development. He emphasized the need for everyone's cooperation to increase native fish production and protect fishery resources.
Special guests included Additional Superintendent of Police (Finance and Administration) Mukit Hasan Khan, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shoaib Ahmad, District Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Vice-Principal Shahidul Islam Mukul, District BNP Member Secretary Abu Zahid Dablu, and President of the Shrimp Hatchery Association of Bangladesh (SEAB) for Khulna and Satkhira regions, Alhaj Dr. Abul Kalam Babla. The speakers praised the government's various initiatives in the fisheries sector and stressed the importance of adopting modern fish farming methods to boost production.
The event concluded with an award ceremony where several successful fish farmers and traders were recognized for their special contributions to the fisheries economy. The entire program was skillfully conducted by Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer, Agriculturist Md. Shafiqul Islam.
