The 49th death anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was observed at Dhaka University through various programs on Wednesday,.
On this occasion, in the morning, under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, teachers, students, officials and employees of the university placed wreaths at the poet's tomb and recited Fateha.
Later, a discussion meeting was held on the open stage in the premises of the poet's tomb, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan said, "The life and literary works of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam teach us to protest against injustice. We also learn from Nazrul's literary works to maintain a strong unity among ourselves by maintaining equality, harmony and peace. He was a man of multidimensional qualities. His multidimensionality will be a source of inspiration for us throughout the ages."
Retired Professor of the Bangla Department of Dhaka University Dr. Syed Mohammad Shahed delivered a commemorative speech at the meeting. The program was moderated by the Chairman of the Bangla Department, Prof Dr. Sirajul Islam (Siraj Salekeen).
Teachers and students of the music department performed Nazrul Sangeet.
