The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Integrated District Office has conducted a raid at the Nazirpur Upazila LGED office in Pirojpur following allegations of corruption and irregularities against former Upazila Engineer Md. Zakir Hossain Mia in various projects on  Tuesday. 

A  team led by Md. Zakir Hossain, Assistant Director of the ACC Integrated Pirojpur District Office, carried out the raid at the Nazirpur Upazila LGED office  until the afternoon.

According to ACC sources, the ACC visited the Nazirpur Upazila LGED office to collect information on various irregularities and corrupt practices of the former Upazila Engineer. During the operation, they found evidence of corruption and irregularities by Engineer Zakir. They also discovered that computer operator Abdus Salam had been occupying the same post for 23 years by abusing his influence, and Sub-Assistant Engineer Abdul Gaffar had been in the same position for 8 years. 

It was found that Abdus Salam had never applied for a transfer. On the other hand, Sub-Assistant Engineer Abdul Gaffar not only refrained from applying for a transfer but also used his influence and corrupt means to cancel his transfer orders.
Sub-Assistant Engineer Abdul Gaffar approved bills for works at Kailani Government Primary School and Kolatala Government Primary School without completing the actual work, in favor of a contracting firm named Swagata Enterprise.

 The owner of this contracting firm is Chanchal Kanti Biswas, former General Secretary of the Nazirpur Upazila Chhatra League and current General Secretary of the Upazila Jubo League. After the fall of the Awami League on August 5, the contractor went into hiding. As the payment of the bills became known, Sub-Assistant Engineer Abdul Gaffar extended the project deadlines and is currently carrying out the work of the two schools with his own funding.

Md. Zakir Hossain, Assistant Director of the ACC Integrated Pirojpur District Office, said that extensive evidence of corruption and irregularities was found against Upazila Engineer Zakir Hossain Mia of the Nazirpur Upazila LGED office. He is currently suspended in Goalanda Upazila of Rajbari and under investigation.

 It was also  found to be against the rules that computer operator Abdus Salam has remained in the same post for 23 years and Sub-Assistant Engineer Abdul Gaffar for 8 years. Abdul Gaffar had his transfer order canceled to remain in his post.
