Staff Correspondent, Narayanganj
BNP Central Vice Chairman and former Member of Parliament Shamsuzzaman Dudu has said that although nearly 10 months have passed since the fall of the autocratic regime, a truly democratic system has yet to be established in the country. He criticized the current government for promoting so-called reforms that echo Sheikh Hasina’s version of development.
“To truly defeat fascism, there is no alternative to a democratic government,” he stated. “Unless a democratically elected government comes to power, the current crisis will not be resolved.”
He made these remarks on Wednesday at a discussion, prayer, and memorial gathering organized by the Fishermen’s Wing of the BNP in the Katherpul area of Fatullah, Narayanganj. The event marking the 44th martyrdom anniversary of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman.
Dudu also said, “India is continuously spreading propaganda against our country. There is no alternative to elections to counter this. We criticize the government so it doesn't stray or make misguided decisions. Our internal unity must not be broken—no action or statement should be made that harms our solidarity.”
The event was presided over by the convenor of the city’s Fishermen’s Wing, Jahangir Alam Ratan, and conducted by member secretary Nasir Uddin Jahan Sagar. Other speakers included former central member secretary of the Fishermen’s Wing Abdur Rahim, city BNP member secretary Abu Al Yusuf Khan Tipu, and several others.
