Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s maiden speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) is a significant, timely and balanced reflection of the aspirations of Bangladesh and the international community.

His historic 17-minute address in Bangla has reflected the global demands for world peace, resolution of international conflicts and multilateralism.

It has also appropriately highlighted Bangladesh's internal priorities, including the Rohingya crisis, economic growth and democratic state reforms, on the global stage.

The speech has reflected the July movement, ending more than one-and-a-half decades of fascist rule and restoration of the democratic process and rule of law in the country through a free, fair and impartial election held on February 12 last.

It has strongly established Bangladesh's political legitimacy and its uncompromising stance against undemocratic forces before the international community, boosting country’s confidence in the global stage.

Through this, the Prime Minister has showed the world that Bangladesh is no longer under the control of any authoritarian or undemocratic force and that the government is running the country with the sacred mandate given by the people through ballots.

He has presented the government's “Three-R” (Recovery, Restoration and Reconstruction) strategy for rebuilding the state.

This ‘Three-R’ strategy has clearly proved that the current government does not believe in patchwork reforms rather it has embarked on running the state with a well-planned and long-term roadmap.

Through this speech, the Prime Minister has courageously presented Bangladesh's new democratic journey before world leaders.

The speech has put emphasis on diplomatic dialogue and cooperation instead of using military force to resolve international crises, and his call for shifting military budgets to development sectors, have reaffirmed Bangladesh's firm position favoring world peace.

It has reflected that Bangladesh has emerged not only economically but also ideologically and politically as a mature democratic state.

Besides the premier has highlighted environmental issues, long-standing Rohingya crisis and sought cooperation from international communities to resolve the crisis.

Tarique Rahman has reaffirmed Bangladesh's unwavering support for the demand for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
