Press Conference in Bandarban protesting NCP leader Sarjis Alam’s statement

 Bandarban Correspondent

A press conference was held to protest against the remarks made by Sarjis Alam, Chief Organizer of the National Citizen Party (NCP), who referred to Bandarban as a place where extortionists and corrupt officials are sent as punishment, and to demand an immediate withdrawal of his statement along with an apology.

The press conference, organized by the Chhatra Samaj, took place on Sunday  noon at the Bandarban Press Club.

During the press conference, speakers stated that on July 3, during the “July March” in Panchagarh, NCP leader Sarjis Alam made a remark describing Bandarban as a “place where extortionists and corrupt officials are sent as punishment.” This comment was not only regrettable but also highly condemnable, derogatory, and unacceptable. Such a statement from a national leader not only undermines the dignity of an entire district but also exposes blatant state discrimination and neglect towards the Chittagong Hill Tracts. The speakers remarked that this statement by Sarjis Alam, Chief Organizer of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has sparked negative reactions among the entire hill community, describing Bandarban, a peaceful and harmonious district, in such a manner. They called for him to promptly issue an apology and retract his statement.

The press conference was attended by representatives of Bandarban Chhatra Samaj, including Asif Iqbal, Aminul Islam, Khalid Bin Nazrul, Habib Al Mahmud, Jubayer Hossain, Rashedul Islam, Hasan Al Banna, Joynal Abedin, Tarekul Islam, along with journalists from various print and electronic media.
