Rumors over Nagad baseless,govt committed to modernizing postal services: Faqir Mahbub

Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, Information Technology, and Science and Technology Fakir Mahbub Anam has urged the public and media to verify information before publishing or sharing news, dismissing ongoing rumors regarding the financial service Nagad as entirely baseless.
The minister made the remarks on Wednesday while addressing an event as the chief guest at Dak Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon area.
The occasion marked the inauguration of franchise post offices and the formal handover of Tk 18.57 crore to the Department of Posts as the government's share of profits generated from Nagad’s revenue collection for the 2025–26 fiscal year.
Highlighting the state-owned institution's role, Minister Fakir Mahbub stated that Nagad enjoys strong public trust and that the government's management of the financial platform will continue to ensure healthy market competition. He emphasized that through modern software, enhanced customer service, and innovative initiatives, the platform will be made even more competitive and resilient.
Referring to the newly launched franchise post office initiative, the minister noted that while the model has been successfully operated globally for years, introducing it in Bangladesh will bring postal services directly to people's doorsteps. He noted that the initiative will gradually expand to all post offices nationwide, creating new business and employment opportunities while widening citizen access.
The minister also remarked that under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the government has achieved significant progress in fulfilling its election manifesto commitments within its first six months in office, with Nagad's profitability serving as a prime example of this success.
Presided over by Nagad-BPO Administrator Md. Motasim Billah, the event was addressed by Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Bilquis Jahan Rimi as a special guest, alongside Directorate of Posts Acting Director General Kazi Asadul Islam, among other senior officials and stakeholders.
