The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has finally arrested Akramul Islam, the prime suspect in the sensational murder of driver Mohidul Islam. The crime took place in the Anandnagar Housing area of Joynabari Kandarchar, under Savar Upazila. After remaining a fugitive for a long time, his arrest in Jhenaidah has brought a significant breakthrough to the case.

A joint operational team of RAB-4 and RAB-6 apprehended him on Thursday afternoon (April 9) from the Garaganj area of Shailkupa Police Station in Jhenaidah district. Officials involved in the operation stated that the arrest was made possible through a planned raid based on confidential intelligence.

The matter was confirmed on Friday night (April 10) by Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Shahinur Kabir, Company Commander of RAB-4, CPC-2. He stated, “The accused had been in hiding since the murder. By coordinating modern technology and intelligence data, we were able to track his location and successfully arrest him.”

The arrested individual, Akramul Islam (45), is the son of Ashraful Islam and a resident of the Stadium Para area in Jhenaidah Sadar. During initial interrogation by RAB, Akramul claimed that the victim, Mohidul Islam, had a long-standing extramarital affair with his wife. Upon discovering this, Akramul became enraged and planned for revenge. He admitted to committing the murder as part of that plan.

According to investigation sources, driver Mohidul Islam was lured from the Uttara area of Dhaka to Savar on the night of March 30. He was taken to a secluded spot as per a premeditated plan, where he was brutally slaughtered. The killers then fled, leaving the body behind. The gruesome nature of the incident caused widespread sensation and panic in the locality.

Local residents noted that Mohidul Islam was a professional driver and a well-known face in the area. His tragic death has left his family and relatives in deep mourning.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Mehedi Hasan of the Savar Tannery Outpost said, “The arrested accused was sent to the Dhaka court on Saturday. However, the actual motive behind the murder is yet to be fully confirmed. We are investigating the matter with high priority, and further details will be provided later.”

Law enforcement agencies stated that they are also looking into whether anyone else was involved in the killing. If necessary, further arrest raids will be conducted.

Meanwhile, the brutal murder has sparked intense anger and concern among locals. Residents have demanded a swift investigation and the maximum punishment for the perpetrators, fearing that without exemplary justice, such barbaric crimes may increase in society.

The investigation is still ongoing, and authorities believe the full mystery behind the incident will be unraveled very soon.
