
Second-in-Command of Laloo gang arrested from Meghna River

Police arrested Soikat, the second-in-command of the notorious Laloo Gang. He was apprehended on Wednesday afternoon from Shafik’s motorcycle garage located on the new road in Bhaterchar area of Tengar Char Union, along the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Gazaria, Munshiganj. Soikat hails from the Hoglakandi village and is a key figure in the infamous Laloo Gang.
The Laloo Gang faces numerous allegations including illegal sand extraction from the Meghna River, riverine and land-based robbery, extortion, and mugging.
According to police, 28-year-old Soikat (full name: Tarikul Rahman Soikat) is accused in 10 different cases involving robbery, mugging, and possession of illegal firearms. The arrest has been confirmed by OC Md. Anwar Alam Azad of Gazaria Police Station.
It has been revealed that the Laloo Gang has long terrorized the Meghna and its tributaries in the Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj. Their activities include extortion on the river routes, illegal sand trade, armed robbery, and frequent clashes involving gunfire, physical assaults, and even arson, aimed at asserting dominance.
OC Md. Anwar Alam Azad further stated that multiple cases have been filed against the Laloo Gang over illegal sand extraction from the Meghna River, and criminal activities on both river and land routes. Soikat is involved in 10 cases across 4 police stations, with others currently under court trial. He is currently under interrogation at the station, and police might conduct an operation to recover weapons based on his statements. After questioning, he will be presented before the court on Thursday.
