T-shirts worth Tk 7 lakh looted : 4 arrested, goods recovered in Mirsarai

Police have arrested four members of an inter-district robbery gang in connection with the looting of exportable garment products worth about 7 lakh taka from a moving covered van in Mirsarai, Chittagong. Most of the looted goods and two pickup vans used in the robbery have been seized in the operation. The arrested are Md. Nazim Mia (25), Md. Harun alias Vaisaab (29), Md. Sohag (22), and Md. Nazrul Islam (46).
It is learned that the robbery incident took place in front of the Rangdhanu Filling Station in Wahedpur Union under Mirsarai Police Station on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway at around 4 am on April 23.
The covered van was carrying exportable T-shirts from Fatulla in Narayanganj to the KDS depot in Chittagong. On the way, the robbers looted 609 pieces of T-shirts in 34 cartons from the covered van, whose market value is about 7 lakh 350 taka. After the incident, the manager of M/s Siam Transport Agency Md. Altaf Hossain Khan filed a case with Mirsarai Police Station as the plaintiff. During the initial investigation of the case, the driver of the covered van, Farhad Ali, was arrested. During interrogation, he admitted that the embezzlement and looting of the goods was organized with the direct connivance of the covered van owner, Zahirul Islam.
A special team of Mirsarai Police Station led by Mirsarai Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police Md. Nadim Haider Chowdhury conducted a raid in Baklia and Sadarghat areas of Chittagong city and arrested four people.
During a press briefing on Friday, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Mirsarai Circle) Md. Nadim Haider Chowdhury said that based on the information provided by the arrested persons, 598 pieces of T-shirts in 33 cartons looted from a godown in the capital were recovered. The estimated value of the recovered goods is Tk 6,87,700. In addition, an open pickup van (Dhaka Metro-No. 11-0641) used in the robbery and another pickup van on April 28 were seized.
He also said, "The main mystery of the robbery has been revealed.
This incident took place in collusion between the driver and the owner. Almost all the looted goods have been recovered and our operation to arrest the remaining members of the gang is continuing."
