Teachers, students demand removal of Sabjannesa Kamil Madrasa principal over alleged moral turpitude, financial irregularities

Mahbub Piyal, Faridpur

Teachers, staff, and students of Sabjannesa Kamil Mohila Madrasa in the Purba Khabaspur area of Faridpur town have demanded the dismissal and strict disciplinary action against Principal Md. Alamgir Hossain over allegations of moral turpitude, financial misappropriation, and misconduct.

Formal written complaints detailing the allegations have been submitted to the relevant authorities.

According to the complaint, the principal allegedly attempted to entice a first-year Fazil student and a female employee of the adjacent Sabjannesa Muslim Girls' Orphanage into inappropriate conduct by offering financial incentives and employment promises. The incident triggered protests among students and staff after several orphans reportedly witnessed the misconduct.

The complaint further states that when teachers and students protested attempts to cover up the incident, a altercation broke out. The principal and a few associates allegedly charged at students with sticks, physically assaulted them, hurled verbal abuse, and threatened them with Transfer Certificates (TCs).

The written complaint also outlines extensive financial irregularities, alleging that the principal failed to deposit Tk 3 lakh allocated by the Upazila Project Implementation Office and Tk 2 lakh provided by the District Council into the institution's general fund.

Additional financial allegations include the embezzlement of over Tk 1 lakh forcibly collected from teachers under the pretext of ministry audits, tuition fees received from the Directorate for 2024, 2025, and 2026, and surplus funds from Fazil and Kamil examination centers. The principal is also accused of taking bribes for medical leave, MPO processing, time scales, and higher scale applications; selling textbooks without floating quotations; and misappropriating Tk 1.40 lakh provided by a publishing house for madrasa grants during the 2025–26 fiscal year.

Furthermore, the complaint alleges that the principal cut down and sold a tree on campus without Governing Body approval, personally controlled all receipts and vouchers, withheld BMEd program office allocations, and arbitrarily altered audit committees three times in a single year without board authorization.

Students also alleged that the principal engaged in physical punishment under the guise of discipline, summoned students to his office under study-related pretexts to make inappropriate remarks and gestures, stayed in his office late at night, and peered into residential rooms, creating an environment of insecurity among female boarders.

In response to the allegations, the governing authorities issued a show-cause notice to Principal Md. Alamgir Hossain, directing him to provide a written explanation within 10 working days as to why disciplinary action should not be initiated against him under relevant service regulations.

When contacted, Principal Md. Alamgir Hossain confirmed receipt of the show-cause notice, stating, "I have submitted my written response to the show-cause notice. An investigation committee has been formed, and I have been called to present my statement on October 5. As a human being, mistakes can happen."

The teachers, students, and staff of the institution have urged authorities to conduct an impartial investigation and enforce strict administrative and legal measures if the charges are substantiated.
