Md. Mafiz Uddin Sarker, Rangpur

Opposition Leader in the National Parliament and Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “We welcome the government's Padma Barrage project, but the Teesta Master Plan must be implemented immediately to fulfill the dream of changing the fate of the people of Rangpur region.”

He was speaking as the chief guest at a gathering organized by the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Rangpur Metro  Branch at the Rangpur Shilpakala Academy auditorium on Friday afternoon.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Central Working Committee member and Rangpur Metropolitan Ameer Vice-President Maulana ATM Azam Khan presided over the program.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “Before the elections, it is not enough to just shout slogans like ‘Jago Bahe Konthe Sabyay’ the government has to take responsible initiatives to change the fate of the people of the northern region. We will fully cooperate with the government in such urgent work, but if it does or makes any decision that is against the health of the country, we will protest inside and outside the parliament. He said that if Teesta is saved, people will survive, so people do not want to see its successful implementation. We will have to protest if necessary to implement this Teesta master plan.”

The opposition leader in the parliament regretted that the July Revolution that gave us and the government party the opportunity to sit in the parliament today, “We have forgotten the contribution of those July fighters. This is dishonesty with the blood of hundreds of martyrs. The people of Rangpur are lucky, here, hundreds of July fighters of the country including Abu Sayeed have given their blood. Today that blood is being dishonest with the verdict of the public vote and the promises are not fulfilled.”

He said, “The people voted for us, and another party stole that victory. In the 26th parliamentary election, the people proved this fraud by voting yes by 69 percent because we were in favor of the ‘Yes’ vote.”

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “We love the country, so we did not flee the country, those who do not love the country flee the country. We are not afraid of anyone's tag or threat or any force, we only fear Allah Rabbul Al Amin.” Dr. Shafiqur Rahman expressed gratitude to the people of Rangpur for electing candidates from 11 parties in all 6 seats of Rangpur in the last election.

The opposition leader of the parliament said that how long the government will remain in power will depend on their behavior and activities. Their working methods will be determined by Allah. Before addressing the gathering Dr. Shafiqur Rahman MP spoke with the journalist and answered their question.

Earlier in the morning, the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Rangpur-Dinajpur region Upazila and Thana Ameer's conference was addressed as the chief guest at the Rangpur Model College auditorium.
