Two arrested  with foreign pistol,  ammunition after fleeing police checkpoint in Pallabi

Staff Correspondent

Police arrested two youths after they attempted to flee a police checkpoint in the capital's Pallabi area on Saturday afternoon, recovering a foreign-made pistol, a magazine, and two rounds of ammunition from one of the suspects.

The arrestees have been identified as Mashiul Azam Orin and Shanta Islam. Police seized the motorcycle used by the duo during the operation.

Addressing a press conference at Pallabi Police Station on Saturday night, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Mirpur Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Hasan Mohammad Naser Rikabdar provided details regarding the arrest. He stated that the incident occurred at around 4:55 pm near the Mirpur-11 metro rail station.

Police officers deployed at the checkpoint signaled a suspicious motorcycle to stop for routine inspection. The riders defied the signal and attempted to speed away, prompting police personnel to pursue, intercept, and search them. During the physical search, officers recovered the firearm, magazine, and live ammunition from Mashiul Azam Orin.

Police officials disclosed that both arrestees are named in multiple criminal cases involving robbery and mugging across various police stations. Mirpur Division Detective Branch (DB) had previously recovered a firearm from Mashiul Azam Orin on May 28, 2025, leading to an Arms Act case filed at Pallabi Police Station on May 25, 2025. Orin faces a total of nine cases at Mirpur Model, Pallabi, and other police stations, while Shanta Islam is named in three similar cases across various stations.
