A workshop titled “Progress and Achievements of BRRI” along with the inauguration of a two-month-long training program on modern rice production for scientists of the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) was held on Monday at the training building conference hall of BRRI headquarters in Gazipur.

Professor Dr. Mobasser Monem, Chairman of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC), attended the function  as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the workshop and training program.
The inaugural session was presided over by BRRI Director General Dr. Mohammad Khalequzzaman. Special guest Professor A. S. M. Golam Hafiz, Member of BPSC, was also present.

The keynote paper was presented by Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam, Director (Research), while the welcome address was delivered by Dr. Munnuzan Khanam, Director (Administration and Common Services).

In his speech, the chief guest Prof  Dr. Mobasser Monem emphasized that agricultural research institutions, particularly BRRI scientists, are playing a vital role in ensuring the country’s food security. He noted that the development of improved rice varieties has significantly contributed to sustaining the agricultural sector.

However, he stressed the importance of effectively disseminating research outcomes to the general public to make scientific efforts truly successful.
He also pointed out that many scientists are leaving the country due to a lack of adequate facilities and urged ensuring proper incentives to prevent such brain drain.

Special guest Prof A. S. M. Golam Hafiz highlighted the government’s strong commitment to agricultural development. He mentioned that the waiver of agricultural loans up to Tk 10,000 shortly after assuming office reflects this commitment. He further stated that resolving existing challenges in agricultural research institutions requires strong political will, expressing hope that the current government will take necessary steps.
In his presidential remarks, BRRI Director General Dr. Mohammad Khalequzzaman thanked all the guests for their presence.

Prior to the inauguration, BPSC Chairman Prof Dr. Mobasser Monem and Member Prof  A. S. M. Golam Hafiz visited BRRI’s C4 Laboratory, Central Laboratory, and Gene Bank.
