
UHFPO Dr Jafrin Jahed Jiti says : Boalkhali Upazila Health Center fully ready to provide medical services to snakebite patients

With the increase in snake infestation in Boalkhali, Chattogram during the monsoon season, snakebite incidents have increased. In this situation, there has been concern among the locals.
However, the Boalkhali Upazila Health Complex is fully prepared to treat snakebite patients and Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer ( UHFPO) Dr. Jafrin Jahed Jiti has urged the people to seek treatment at the hospital quickly without relying on any kind of witch doctor or sharif.
In recent times, there have also been cases of snakebite deaths in Boalkhali, which has created panic among the locals. Till mid-August, 29 snakebite patients have been admitted to the Upazila Health Complex, which is significantly more than in previous months. In the context of this increasing incidence, the Upazila Health Complex authorities have made extensive preparations.
Dr. Jafrin Jahed Jiti said that the hospital has prepared all the necessary materials for the treatment of snake bites, including antivenom in sufficient quantities. Not only that, all the doctors at the hospital have been given special training in the treatment of snakebite patients. In addition, a medicine specialist has been appointed as a focal person to provide expert advice to the doctors in any emergency situation, who will be ready for 24-hour assistance.
Dr. Jiti emphasized, “If bitten by a snake, do not neglect it and immediately bring it to the Boalkhali Upazila Health Complex or seek medical advice. In this case, not wasting time is the key to saving lives. He also said that since there is no ICU support at the upazila level, it may be necessary to refer complex patients for advanced treatment. However, even in that case, the patient will be sent only after primary treatment and antivenom administration.
The number of patients admitted to the hospital due to snakebite in the last few months is also significant. 4 patients received treatment in June, 8 in July and 29 patients in the first 16 days of August. Even, 4 patients who were bitten by snakes were reported to be admitted to the hospital in the last 24 hours. These statistics show how much the snake infestation has increased in Boalkhali.
In this situation, health officials have advised not to panic and be aware. If you are bitten by a snake, you have been urged to bring the patient directly to the hospital without wasting valuable time by going to the witch doctor or the shaman. Proper treatment at the right time can cure snakebite. To save the life of the affected patient.
