
Water tanks distributed by SAS to harvest rainwater in Ashashuni

In response to the growing crisis of safe drinking water caused by climate change, a rainwater harvesting initiative has been launched in Ashashuni, Satkhira.
Water storage tanks were distributed among selected beneficiary families in front of the project office of Satkhira Unnayan Sangstha (SAS), located near Ashashuni Bus Stand on Tuesday.
This initiative is being implemented under the project titled "Adapting to Climate Change and Ensuring Food Security," with support from Stromme Foundation Bangladesh and managed by SAS.The program was formally inaugurated by Ashashuni UNO Krishna Roy, who attended as the chief guest.
The event was presided over by Sheikh Iman Ali, Executive Director of SAS, and conducted by Project Coordinator Md. Azadul Islam.Among the special guests were Upazila Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Abdus Salam, Upazila Women Affairs Officer Saidul Islam, Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer Tarikul Islam, SAS Regional Manager Mizanur Rahman, Environmental Coordinator Sheikh Imon Parvez (Prince), Project Administrative Officer Md. Robiul Islam, Monitoring Officer Javed Miahadad, and Field Facilitators Saleha Khatun and Md. Rokonuzzaman, among others.A total of 17 families from different parts of Ashashuni received one water tank each, with a capacity of 2,000 liters.
Beneficiaries expressed their satisfaction, stating that the tanks would significantly help resolve their long-standing problem of accessing safe drinking water.UNO Krishna Roy remarked, “Due to climate change, the coastal regions are facing an escalating water crisis. Initiatives like this are timely and crucial for improving the quality of life of local communities.”
