Cox's Bazar Correspondent

A woman has been stabbed to death by her husband in a Rohingya camp in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, allegedly over an extramarital affair. Police have arrested the accused husband in connection with the incident.

Ukhiya Police Station OC Mohammad Arif Hossain confirmed that the incident took place at midnight on Tuesday in Block A-7 of Camp No. 19 in Ghonarpara, Ukhiya upazila.

The deceased, Rehena Begum (29), was the wife of Nurul Islam from the same camp. The accused husband has been taken into custody.

Quoting locals, Shamim Hossain said that Rehena Begum had an extramarital affair with a neighbor in the same camp. This led to frequent quarrels between the husband and wife due to the husband’s suspicions.

“At midnight on Tuesday, an argument broke out between the couple in their home over the alleged affair. At one point, Nurul Islam, enraged, stabbed Rehena Begum in the chest and abdomen. She died on the spot due to excessive bleeding.”

The OC said, “Upon receiving the news, a team of APBn police arrived at the scene and recovered Rehena Begum’s bloodied body. The accused husband was arrested while attempting to flee the scene.”

Shamim Hossain added that the body of the deceased has been sent to the Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
