Young man dies after entering septic tank in Juri

A young man has died after entering a septic tank in Juri upazila of Moulvibazar to retrieve a wallet that had fallen inside. While searching for him, his younger brother also entered the tank and fell ill. He is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
The tragic incident occurred last night (Wednesday) in the border area of Domabari under Goalbari Union of Juri Upazila. The deceased has been identified as Sohel Ahmed (27), a day laborer and son of Mojammel Ali from the Domabari area. His younger brother, Imon Ahmed (25), was injured.
According to local sources, Sohel went to use the toilet last night. His wallet, tucked into his lungi at the waist, slipped through the commode and fell into the septic tank. He then entered the tank to retrieve it. When he did not come out after a long time, his younger brother Imon climbed down to check on him. After that, there was no response from either of them.
Upon receiving the news, a team from the Juri Fire Service arrived at the scene around 9 PM and began a rescue operation. Fire service personnel entered the tank and rescued both brothers.
Shamim Ahmed, in-charge of the Juri Fire Service Station, said initial observations suggest the brothers were affected by toxic gases inside the tank.
Dr. Asit Debnath, Resident Medical Officer of Juri Upazila Health Complex, said Sohel Ahmed had died before reaching the hospital. Imon Ahmed is out of danger and has been transferred to Moulvibazar 250-bed hospital for advanced treatment.
