Zero pass rate in four institutions in Manikganj HSC Exams
Mohsin Mohammad Matrik, Manikganj
In a severe academic setback, all 34 examinees from four educational institutions in Manikganj failed to clear the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations this year.
According to district-level statistics released following the official publication of results on Saturday, October 31, 2026, the zero-pass list comprises two colleges and two madrasas. Furthermore, students from 30 out of the 42 colleges and madrasas across the district failed to secure a GPA-5.
The institutions with a zero per cent pass rate include Dr. Abdur Rahim Khan Women's College in Ghior Upazila, Golam Monir Hossain Girls' School and College in Manikganj Sadar Upazila, Baghutia Alim Madrasa in Daulatpur Upazila, and Dargram Fazil Madrasa in Saturia Upazila.
Official figures indicate that a solitary candidate appeared from Dr. Abdur Rahim Khan Women's College and failed to pass. Similarly, seven students from Golam Monir Hossain Girls' School and College, nine from Baghutia Alim Madrasa, and 17 from Dargram Fazil Madrasa took the examinations, with all candidates failing to secure passing marks.
Beyond the four zero-pass institutions, overall academic performance across the district remained dismal. Out of 10,394 students who sat for the examinations across 35 colleges and seven madrasas in seven upazilas, only 3,965 passed while 6,429 failed, resulting in a combined pass rate of 38.14 per cent. Consequently, nearly 62 per cent of examinees in the district failed to clear the exams.
Daulatpur upazila recorded the lowest performance in the district, where only 78 out of 506 examinees across five institutions passed, registering a pass rate of 15.42 per cent and zero GPA-5 achievers. Conversely, Ghior upazila recorded the highest pass rate among the seven upazilas at 55.11 per cent, though 316 candidates still failed within the upazila.
Only 12 out of the 42 institutions in Manikganj produced GPA-5 recipients, with a total of 89 students attaining top grades statewide—75 of whom belonged to institutions within Manikganj Sadar Upazila.
The widespread failure and the absence of GPA-5 scorers in 30 institutions have sparked serious concerns among guardians and educationists regarding classroom instruction standards.
Addressing the issue, Manikganj District Education Officer Md. Amir Hossain emphasized the need for continuous oversight, noting that ensuring quality education requires collective responsibility from teachers and parents alongside making classroom environments more engaging to foster student attendance and learning.
