Lumpy Skin Disease spreding in Lalmonirhat, . farmers demand immediate action
Sabbir Hossain, Hatibandha ( Lalmonirhat)
In Lalmonirhat, a district near the India-Bangladesh border, Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) is spreading quickly among cows and buffaloes. This virus is not harmful to humans but very dangerous for cattle.
The animal has lumps on the skin, a fever, is drooling, not eating, feels weak, and has sores on the body. Many animals are dying without proper treatment.
Farmers say the disease may have come from livestock smuggling across the border, especially during Eid al-Adha.
Affected animals need care and treatment, but vaccines and medicines are hard to find, and treatment costs are high.
Local animal health officers are running awareness campaigns to help farmers take better care of their animals. They advise farmers to keep sick animals away from the others, give them proper care, and contact local animal departments for help when needed.
They also say government vaccines are not yet available in Lalmonirhat, so farmers are being told to buy vaccines from the market.
Farmers are worried about losing their income and are asking the government to act fast with vaccines and support.
