
63 BCL activists sued over procession in Noakhali, 6 arrested

Police have filed a case against 63 leaders and activists of the banned student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) for organizing a sudden flash procession in Choumuhani Bazar, Begumganj upazila of Noakhali on Friday.
Begumganj Police Station OC Liton Dewan confirmed the filing of the case. He said the case was lodged by police on Thursday night, naming 43 individuals and including 15–20 unnamed suspects. Six people were arrested during an immediate police operation following the incident.
The arrestees are — Nur Nabi alias Raju (31) and Abdul Ahad (18) of Karimpur area, Ward 4, Choumuhani Municipality; Md. Shraban (19) of Babunagar village, Sharifpur Union; Jahidul Hasan (19) of Gonipur village, Ward 5, Choumuhani Municipality; and Md. Arman (19) of Char Kauniya village, East Charmatua Union, Ward 19, Sadar Upazila.
According to police and locals, at around 3:45 PM on Thursday, 25–30 youths were seen marching from Choumuhani Rail Line to Hasan Road area, carrying several festoons and a banner of BCL. They were chanting slogans against the interim government and shouting “Sheikh Hasina will return.”
The procession was allegedly led by banned BCL activist Jihad Hasan Raton, and a video of the event was shared on Facebook by former BCL leader Nazmul Shihab.
Following the march, police launched a raid and arrested six people, seizing two festoons and three sticks from their possession.
OC Liton Dewan said the case has been filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Among the arrestees, five are named in the FIR, while the other was arrested based on immediate evidence. Police are continuing efforts to arrest the remaining accused.
