The municipality has not taken any initiative to provide drainage system in Hasan Nagar Mainar Point residential area of Sunamganj Municipality for 20 years.
As a result, more than a hundred families are suffering from extreme flooding due to the lack of a drainage system for the past 20 years.
Every day, water from bathroom drains overflows and clogs the municipal roads and the people of hundreds of helpless daily wage workers have to walk on all that dirty water. Even the worshippers have to walk on the dirty water of all those houses while praying in the mosque. For the past 20 years, all those who have become mayors in the Sunamganj Municipality elections have only made promises and won votes.
After winning the elections, they have not been seen again. The helpless people of that neighborhood have only suffered, the municipal authorities have not taken any effective measures. It is known that when the Awami League government was in power due to political vendetta, the General Secretary of the District Awami League, Enamul Kabir Emon, had drainage arrangements made from the Mainar Point Jame Mosque to the front of his house for the convenience of his house, from the municipal authorities and the drainage arrangements were not provided by the municipality to Abdul Mannan Miah's house, just 300 yards from his house, on the municipal road inside the neighborhood? Just because a BNP leader's house is inside the neighborhood. However, thousands of crores of taka were allocated for the drainage system of the municipality during the Awami League government.
The municipal authorities have made necessary and unnecessary drainage arrangements in all areas. But the municipal authorities have not taken the initiative to take any drainage system from in front of Barrister Enamul Kabir Emon's house to Abdul Mannan's house due to political vendetta. However, the people of all those hundreds of families who are suffering have been paying the municipality tax for years. In fact, the candidates obtained votes from the people by promising to build drains and government tubewells.
Rumors are already being heard from the people that the people of that neighborhood will beat the candidates for the elections this time. It is known that after the fall of the Awami League government, the current interim government has appointed new municipal administrators, excluding the mayors of the municipalities.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rezaul Karim has been given the responsibility of the administrator in the new municipality. After taking charge as the administrator, he has been working on improving the roads and drainage system of the municipality every day. But due to the controversial engineer of the corrupt municipality, the picture of the land degradation in that area has not yet come to the attention of the municipal administrator.
If the initiative is not taken to take up the drainage system of that neighborhood during the current interim government, the municipality will not provide drainage system for the next 20 years, the people of the helpless families who are suffering have said. Whether the municipal administrator will take the necessary measures to alleviate the suffering of all those hundreds of families has also become a matter of concern.
Municipal Administrator Mohammad Rezaul Karim Hasan said, Nagar Nisarga Residential Area will create a new history by setting an example in alleviating the suffering of the people for 20 years by providing drainage system on a 300-yard road and creating a new history in the minds of the people of that neighborhood, people of more than a hundred families have expressed their hope.
