Attack due to internal BNP conflict in Jhikargachha, youth's wrist severed

A person's wrist was severed in a clash due to internal BNP conflict in Jessore's Jhikargachha. He suffered serious bloody injuries to his head and neck. The father and cousin of the injured Arafat Laltu were also injured. Laltu has been referred to Dhaka in critical condition. The incident took place at the Chanderpol intersection of the upazila after 8 pm on Monday.
According to eyewitnesses and local sources, Arafat Laltu and Rubel of Gonnanagar village, followers of Upazila BNP President Sabira Sultana Munni, were in a dispute with Mizan, Sohag Daktar, and Rashid, followers of former convener Mortaza Elahi Tipu.
Mizan Gong brought Rubel after 8 pm on Monday. Upon receiving the news, Laltu went to the spot to find out the matter. He was accompanied by his father Matleb Hossain and cousin Mamun.
Laltu's cousin Shahajan said that Mizan, Sohag Daktar, Rashid and Reza, who were already lying in wait, attacked Laltu with country-made weapons and Chinese axes. Half of Laltu's right wrist was severed in the attack. He suffered serious injuries to his head and neck. His father and brother Mamun were also attacked while trying to save him. When locals rushed to the scene, the attackers fled.
Later, the injured were rescued and admitted to Jashore General Hospital. When Laltu's condition deteriorated, he was referred to Dhaka. He also said that Laltu's condition is critical. The doctor said that Laltu's wrist should be amputated.
Another source said that while he was fleeing with weapons, local people chased Mizan Gong. Rashid of Mizan's group was injured and somehow escaped. He has been admitted to Sharsha Upazila Health Center.
In this regard, Upazila BNP President Sabira Sultana Munni said that Mizan, Sohag Doctor, Rashid, Rezad are accused of extortion, tender rigging, rice embezzlement and terrorist activities. They have become reckless after August 5. Many of this group have already been expelled from the party. Laltu was attacked for taking a stand against the misdeeds of this group.
Another source said that Mortaza Elahi Tipu was defeated by Sabira Sultana Munni by a huge margin in the Upazila BNP elections. Since then, the politics of revenge has started within the party.
It was not possible to get the statement of former convener Mortaza Elahi Tipu on this matter.
Jhikargachha Police Station OC Nur Mohammad Gazi said, after receiving information about the incident, the police quickly reached the spot and brought the situation under control. This was a case of political vendetta and online gambling. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved.
