Attempt to rape of 7-year child lured with treats, 50-year man arrested in Mirzaganj

Police arrested a 50-year-old man named Abdul Gani in connection with an attempted rape case involving a 7-year-old child, who was lured with treats such as chocolate, biscuits, chutney, and chips Mirzaganj in Patuakhali. The accused is Abdul Gani (50), son of late Warech Munshi in village: Dakshin Bhoyang, Majidbaria Union, Mirjaganj Upazila. On Wednesday (April 30) at 7 AM, Mirjaganj police conducted an operation and arrested Abdul Gani from the Singbari area of Kakrabunia Union in Mirjaganj Upazila.According to the case FIR, the 7-year-old child was playing with other children near her home. On April 9, Abdul Gani, a neighbor from Dakshin Bhoyang village, lured the child with promises of treats (chocolate, biscuits, chutney, chips) and took her to a bushy area north of the road. There, he allegedly held her mouth, forcibly removed her clothes, touched sensitive parts of her body, and attempted to rape her. When the child screamed, nearby people rushed to the scene, and the accused fled.On April 17, the child’s mother filed a case against Abdul Gani at the Patuakhali Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, accusing him of attempted rape. The court accepted the case and ordered the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mirjaganj Police Station to register the FIR. The case was formally lodged on April 24.Mirjaganj Police Station OC Shamin Hawlader said, Abdul Gani was arrested in connection with the attempted rape case and has been sent to court.
