Alert Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) personnel deployed at Cox's Bazar International Airport foiled an attempted theft and detained one suspect after an armed group breached the perimeter fence early Tuesday.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:10 am in the Samiti Para post area within the airport boundary. According to official sources, an organized gang of 8 to 10 individuals armed with domestic weapons cut through the barbed-wire fence to enter the restricted zone with the intention of stealing government property and electrical cabling.

On-duty Ansar member Md. Sarowar Kaisar, stationed at the observation tower, spotted the intruders and immediately alerted fellow Ansar members Md. Zakir Hossain and Md. Mohiuddin at Set Post No. 1. The personnel responded promptly, rushing to the location.

Noticing the sudden arrival of security personnel, the gang attempted to flee the scene. Ansar members pursued the intruders and successfully detained one individual, identified as Md. Ismail, 30, a resident of the Charpara area in Cox's Bazar. The remaining accomplices managed to escape, and efforts to identify and trace them are currently underway.

The detained suspect was subsequently handed over to airport authorities for legal proceedings. Airport officials expressed gratitude and commended the Ansar team for their vigilance, courage, and swift intervention in safeguarding a Key Point Installation (KPI).

Ansar and VDP personnel continue to maintain round-the-clock vigilance at state institutions, railways, and vital infrastructure across the country to protect state assets and prevent criminal activity.
