 Noakhali Correspondent

A BNP leader has been accused of attacking, vandalizing and looting the house of a Jubo Dal worker in Amanullahpur Union of Begumganj Upazila of Noakhali using a teenage gang. There is extreme tension in the area over the incident.

According to the complaint source, Amanullahpur Union BNP joint convener Md. Alamgir has been allegedly extorting money from local businessmen and ordinary people for a long time. Last Wednesday morning, he demanded a sum of Tk 10,000 from a businessman and threatened that he would be prevented from doing business in the market if he did not pay regularly.

When the victim informed local Jubo Dal worker Md. Hridoy about the matter, he went to Alamgir and requested him to refrain from extortion. It is alleged that Hridoy was threatened at that time.
Later, the teenage gang led by Alamgir called him and attacked Hridoy. Hridoy ran to his maternal uncle's house to save his life, but there was also an attack.
Hridoy alleged that the attackers entered his maternal uncle's house and vandalized 6-7 houses. Several people including businessman Jasim Uddin, Italian expatriate Saiful Islam and fruit trader Ilyas were injured in this. About 2 lakh taka in cash and 2.5 bhari of gold ornaments were looted from a relative's house. During this time, the elderly members of the house were beaten up and it is also alleged that a teenager's hand was severely injured and a vein in his hand was cut.

During the incident, a teenager called the national emergency service 999 and the police went to the spot and monitored the situation.

On April 8, Delwara Begum filed a written complaint with Begumganj Police Station as the plaintiff in this incident. In it, Md. Alamgir was named as the main accused and 7-8 other unidentified people including Zahir, Ratul, Aziz, Simanto, Al Amin, Jibon, Niloy, Nabi and others were accused.
However, the police could not arrest any accused till the time of writing the report.
On the other hand, accused Alamgir Hossain denied the allegations and said, “Hridoy beat and injured my son. He is currently admitted to Noakhali Medical College Hospital. I have also filed a written complaint with the police station in this incident.”

In this regard, Begumganj Police Station OC Shamsul Zaman said, a written complaint has been received. The incident will be investigated and legal action will be taken against the culprits.

Locals have demanded the immediate arrest and punishment of the culprits in this incident. They fear that if immediate action is not taken, the law and order situation in the area may deteriorate further.
