Fifteen fishermen along with a fishing boat, whose engine failed after falling victim to robbery in the deep sea at Hatiya in Noakhali, were rescued by the Bangladesh Coast Guard on Thursday. .

Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Rafid-As-Sami shared this information via a press release on Friday afternoon.

According to the press release, 15 fishermen went to sea with a fishing trawler for fishing purposes. Later, on August 12, they were attacked by pirates in the deep sea south of Ganguria Char in Char Ishwar under Hatiya police station in Noakhali. The pirates looted the fish, food supplies, engine battery, oil, and various necessary equipment from the boat. As they were outside of mobile network coverage, they couldn’t communicate with anyone and drifted in the sea with a broken engine for three days. Once the fishing boat came within mobile network coverage, they called the national emergency service 999 on Thursday, August 14, to seek help, and the Coast Guard was informed of the incident.

At 8 PM on Thursday, a rescue operation was carried out in the area by the Coast Guard Station Bhasanchar. During the operation, the boat with its broken engine and the 15 fishermen who had fallen victim to piracy were safely rescued from that area and brought to BCG Station Bhasanchar with necessary assistance.

Later, the rescued 15 fishermen and the fishing boat were handed over to the owner.

The Coast Guard of the country will continue such rescue operations in the future.
