Body of Barishal University official recovered from canal

The body of a Barishal University (BU) official was retrieved from a canal adjacent to the campus on Thursday afternoon, said police.
The deceased was identified as Nur Islam, deputy director of the Office of the Director of Physical Education of the university.
He lived with his wife and children in an area by the campus and cultivated crops on his leased lands on the banks of the canal.
Quoting the family, police said he went out of the house to operate a swallow machine set up on the bank of canal to water the cultivated Boro paddy at noon.
For a long time, he did not return to the house and later his body was found floating in the canal, said Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bandar police station.
Nur was believed to be electrocuted when trying to operate the water pump, said the OC.
Being informed, the body was retrieved and electric wires entangled with the body were also found, he informed.
Legal action will be taken in this regard accordingly, added the police official.
