A case has been filed against former Member of Parliament (MP) of Munshiganj-3 constituency, Faisal Biplob, along with 170 others, over an attack and assault on students and general public during an anti-discrimination student movement in Munshiganj.

An additional 100 to 150 unidentified individuals have also been named as accused in the case.

The incident took place on August 4 in front of Krishi Bank in the town. Following reports published in various newspapers and online platforms, the case was registered as an FIR at the Sadar Police Station on Monday under the direction of the court, confirmed Officer-in-Charge (OC) M Saiful Alam PPM. Previously filed as a CR (complaint register) case, the Sadar Police Station converted it to an FIR upon court order.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate of Munshiganj’s No. 1 Amoli Court instructed the Sadar Police Station to register the petition case (CR Case No. 310/25) as an FIR on the same day.

In the case, Faisal Biplob, the fugitive MP and son of Munshiganj District Awami League President Md. Mohiuddin, has been named as the prime accused. The case was filed on March 27 by Roknuddin Rafsan (22), a resident of North Islampur in the city, who was injured by gunshot during the protest.

The lawsuit, submitted to the No. 1 Amoli Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, alleges indiscriminate firing on protestors during the anti-discrimination student movement.

There are allegations that one of the accused, Aminur Rahman Harun Sikder (48) — son of the late Abdus Samad Sikder of Purana Bausia, Gazaria — financially supports the fascist government and has made significant financial investments to have the case withdrawn. It is reported that a copy of the withdrawal petition was submitted to the police station for review. Residents of Gazaria have demanded that Harun Sikder be brought under the law as soon as possible.
