Coast Guard seizes illegal nets worth Tk 32.25cr smuggled from Myanmar, 6 held

The Bangladesh Coast Guard has detained six smugglers and seized a massive haul of illegal current nets worth approximately Tk 32.25 crore smuggled from Myanmar in the western sea area of St. Martin's Island.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon, media officer of the Bangladesh Coast Guard, informed this in a press release on Monday morning.
According to the Coast Guard, acting on a tip-off, a specialized team from the St. Martin's Coast Guard Station conducted a special drive in the western sea area of the island at around 11:00 PM on Saturday, June 20. During the operation, the team signaled a suspicious boat to stop. Defying the order, the boat attempted to flee swiftly into the deep sea.
The Coast Guard team chased the vessel and managed to intercept it in the deep sea. Upon searching the boat, they recovered 2,150,000 meters of illegal foreign current nets smuggled from Myanmar, valued at approximately Tk 32 crore 25 lakh, and detained the six individuals on board.
Legal action regarding the seized nets, the boat used in the smuggling, and the detained individuals has been.taken.
