
DC ’s initiative to resolve crisis at Kulaura Upazila Health Complex

Deputy Commissioner of Moulvibazar Md. Israil Hossain has visited the Kulaura Upazila Health Complex on Thursday afternoon.
During his visit he said, initiatives would be taken to make the hospital modern, clean, and people-friendly. At that time, he emphasized the importance of cleanliness in the hospital environment.
He visited the hospital as part of various programs organized by the Upazila Administration.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Israil Hossain visited the hospital, inquired about the overall condition of the patients, and instructed the concerned authorities to maintain cleanliness and to ensure integrity, accountability, and good behavior with the patients. During this time, he took several initiatives to resolve the ongoing crisis at the hospital. These include informing higher authorities of the health department about the doctor shortage; restarting the X-ray machine that has been non-functional for 29 years; and informing higher authorities to cancel the deputation orders of specialist doctors who are currently posted at district and divisional levels.
He also informed the Civil Surgeon of the district to take necessary steps to run the hospital's OT department once a week with a gynecologist. In addition, he instructed the district engineer of the health department to quickly improve the drainage system in the hospital premises.
By giving directions regarding the duties of those involved in improving service quality, he said that ensuring humane, advanced, and accessible healthcare services for service recipients is one of the key commitments of the administration.
During the visit, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Shah Zahurul Hossain, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Zakir Hossain, Residential Medical Officer (RMO) Dr. Sarmin Farhana Zerin, Officer-in-Charge of Kulaura Police Station Md. Golam Apchar, among others, were present.
Earlier, the District Commissioner distributed 16 bundles of corrugated iron sheets among 8 poor families, and visited Hingajia Tea Garden, LGED Office, and Upazila Land Office as part of programs organized by the Upazila Administration.
It is to be mentioned that in Kulaura, the largest Upazila in the district, various national media outlets have published multiple reports regarding the long-standing issues at the 50-bed Upazila Health Complex meant to serve a population of 500,000. These issues include doctor shortages, lack of medicine, dysfunction in the X-ray department, and absence of cesarean services. After the matter came to the notice of the District Commissioner, he visited the hospital and assured that he would make the utmost effort to resolve the crisis.
