
Extra bus fare collected : Three transport companies fined by BRTA

To ensure a smooth Eid journey, a joint operation was carried out by the Barisal BRTA and the district administration at the bus counters of Nathullabad Bus Terminal in Barishal city.This joint drive was conducted to prevent transport services from charging extra fares from passengers ahead of Eid. The operation continued until Thursday afternoon (April 3) at Nathullabad Bus Terminal.During the operation, proof was found that extra fares were being collected from passengers in violation of Section 80 of the Road Transport Act 2018. As a result, fines were imposed on arim Group's Golden Line Transport ticket counter was fined Tk 5,000, Gabiba Classic Transport's counter was fined Tk 5,000 and Hanif Transport's counter was fined Tk 3,000In total, three ticket counters were fined Tk 13,000.The operation was led by Senior Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Samapti Roy. Barisal BRTA Motor Vehicle Inspector Sourav Kumar Saha was also present during the operation.The magistrate stated, “As part of our regular operations to check whether passengers are being overcharged during Eid or under any pretext, a joint operation by BRTA, district administration, and police was carried out at Barisal’s bus counters today.”Passengers were refunded the extra fare collected from them. The magistrate also added that such operations would continue.Meanwhile, a similar drive was also conducted on the Dhaka-Barisal Highway in Gournadi against buses without fitness certificates and at ticket counters.
