Fake magistrate, police officer, journalist arrested in Shyamnagar

 Shyamnagar (Satkhira) Correspondent

In Shyamnagar Upazila of Satkhira, local residents caught a fake magistrate, a fake police officer, and a fake journalist red-handed while extorting money from shops and handed them over to the police station. The incident took place on Wednesday at  around 5:30 pm in Nurunagar market, a union bordering the upazila.

When the trio demanded money under the guise of being magistrates at two bakeries named Sonar Bangla and Bondhu, suspicions arose among the locals, who then detained them. Later, police seized mobile phones, a video camera, several fake identity cards, and a private car from them. The arrested individuals are Amirul Islam (42), son of Sheikh Alimuddin from Kaliganj Upazila, claiming to be a magistrate; Joy Sardar (31), son of Abu Saeed from Basan Thana, Gazipur district; and Faruk Hossain (44), son of Abul Khair from Uttara, Dhaka. Humayun Kabir Mollah, officer-in-charge of Shyamnagar police station, confirmed the incident, stating that the men had collected 3,000 taka at the Sonar Bangla bakery while impersonating magistrates.

When they demanded more money, suspicions grew. Eventually, local people detained them and handed them over to the Shyamnagar police. It is also alleged that the same three individuals had previously extorted money in the same market in Nurunagar. Legal action is ongoing against the arrested.
