Faridpur-Bhanga Highway: Potholes causing sufferings to passengers, drivers

Mahbub Piyal, Faridpur

The Faridpur-Bhanga highway, plagued by long-overdue repairs, has left passengers and drivers in extreme distress.

The 30-kilometer stretch from Faridpur city to Bhanga is riddled with countless potholes, severely disrupting vehicular movement. Despite a significant increase in traffic pressure on this road since the opening of the Padma Bridge, proposals to upgrade it to a four-lane highway have yet to materialize.

Observations reveal that the road’s condition is particularly dire in certain sections: approximately 300 meters in Bakhunda, 400 meters in Mahila Road, and 200 meters at Talma Mor. Continuous rainfall this week has exacerbated the situation, creating numerous new small and large potholes, making the road hazardous for travel.

Transport driver Jalal Matubbar stated that while the 80-kilometer journey from Dhaka to Bhanga takes about one and a half hours, the 30-kilometer stretch from Bhanga roundabout to Faridpur city takes nearly the same amount of time due to the road’s deplorable condition.

Drivers are forced to navigate at slow speeds, leading to frequent traffic jams. Local residents and passengers have urgently demanded immediate road repairs.
