
GAU Celebrates National Fish Week with Vibrant events

With the theme "Lets Create Fish Sanctuaries, Enrich the Nation with Native Fish," Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) celebrated National Fish Week 2025 (August 1824) through a series of vibrant events led by the Faculty of Fisheries. The initiative highlighted the nutritional value of fish, sustainable management of aquatic resources and the economic significance of the fisheries sector. The days activities included a colorful rally, poster exhibition, seminar and fish fingerling release.
The rally, led by GAU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. GKM Mustafizur Rahman, saw active participation from faculty members, students and staff. Participants carried banners, slogans, and dressed as fishermen and researchers, creatively showcasing the multifaceted role of fisheries in Bangladesh. A brief seminar followed, presided over by Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries, Prof. Dr. Murshida Khan. The Vice-Chancellor, along with Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. M. Moynul Haque and Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Safiul Islam Afrad, emphasized the need for sustainable practices, protection of endangered native species, and advanced research in fish production. VC Prof. Dr. Mustafizur Rahman stressed the importance of establishing a gene bank to conserve local species, highlighting GAUs commitment to research, innovation and the economic development of the fisheries sector. The program concluded with the symbolic release of various fingerlings including Rui, Katla, Mrigal, and Sarputi into the campus reservoir, reinforcing the universitys pledge to biodiversity conservation and environmental balance. GAUs Faculty of Fisheries remains dedicated to advancing Bangladeshs fisheries heritage through scientific excellence, innovation, and sustainable practices.
