Cox's Bazar Correspondent
At the general meeting of the Cox’s Bazar Child Protection Platform (CBCPP), a renewed commitment was expressed to strengthening child protection services for Bangladeshi children.
The meeting took place on Tuesday morning at a local hotel, with the presence of representatives from government agencies, the United Nations, international and national NGOs, and other child protection practitioners.
Speaking as the chief guest, Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salah Uddin said, “Protecting children's rights is not the responsibility of a single institution. It requires a strong, united effort. The government is committed to building a sustainable and stronger child protection system in Cox’s Bazar in partnership with all stakeholders. We urgently need a functional dashboard, and through initiatives like CBCPP, we can make our efforts more coordinated, sustainable, and aligned with national priorities.”
Participants reflected on the achievements and challenges of the past year and identified several key actions for the future. Notable among these were: ensuring effective data sharing through the CBCPP dashboard, increasing capacity-building training, working jointly on child rights issues, and integrating inclusion, disaster risk reduction, and climate change concerns into child protection work.
During the meeting, CBCPP Working Team Lead Hasan Masud remarked, “The true strength of CBCPP lies in bringing together diverse stakeholders under a common goal — to ensure every child feels safe, supported, and respected. Under the guidance of the District Child Welfare Board, we are working collectively to ensure access to services for all children, enhance cooperation, and build a better future for every child in Cox’s Bazar. We hope this platform will also contribute at the policy level in the future.”
The meeting concluded with a renewed pledge for collective action and closer collaboration. Moving forward, CBCPP aims to play a crucial role in building a sustainable and effective child protection system in partnership with all stakeholders.
Formed under the guidance of the Cox’s Bazar District Child Welfare Board and initiated by Save the Children, CBCPP works to coordinate child protection initiatives, identify service gaps, and enhance collaboration among multiple agencies. The CBCPP Working Team includes representatives from selected organizations, UN agencies, international and national NGOs, and local NGOs, all working together to bring positive changes for children.
Save the Children has been working in Bangladesh for over 50 years and has been implementing various development and humanitarian projects in Cox’s Bazar since 2012.
