Govt to take action against project directors for failing to return vehicles of finished projects
Staff Correspondent
The government has directed that legal action be taken against Project Directors (PDs) who fail to return vehicles from completed development projects into the Central Transport Pool, managed by the Directorate of Government Vehicles.
The Ministry of Public Administration recently issued a letter to senior secretaries and secretaries of various ministries, instructing them to enforce this directive.
According to the letter, the existing circular titled "Deposit, Use and Disposal of Vehicles of Completed Development Projects in the Central Transport Pool under the Directorate of Government Vehicles" makes it mandatory to transfer all operational project vehicles to the Directorate within 60 days of project completion. Ministries are also required to obtain a report confirming the handover.
However, the letter notes that in many cases, vehicles are not being deposited even after project completion. As a result, these vehicles often become unusable due to poor storage, leading to financial losses for the government. Timely deposit would allow these vehicles to be reallocated to other government departments or organizations.
The Ministry has stated that if the vehicles are not handed over within the specified timeframe, the concerned ministries or authorities must initiate legal action against the responsible Project Directors and relevant departments.
To address the issue, the Ministry has also instructed all ministries to submit information regarding the deposit, use, and disposal of vehicles from development projects completed over the past five years.
This information must be sent to the Central Transport Pool within 15 working days. Failure to comply will result in disciplinary measures against those responsible, reads the letter.
