Health  Minister's surprise visit to  Satkhira, absent doctor fired

Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain has said that the number of doctors in the country is still far less than the requirement. This crisis has arisen due to the lack of adequate manpower in the health sector for a long time.
 
He made these remarks while talking to reporters after visiting Satkhira Medical College Hospital on Sunday  afternoon.
 
The Health Minister said that during the surprise inspection, he reviewed the hospital's wards, kitchen, bathrooms, doctors' attendance and overall management. Doctor Dr. Sohana Selim has been ordered to be dismissed for being absent from work without any permission for a long year.
 
He said that the management of the hospital is fairly satisfactory despite the limitations. However, the concerned have been instructed to stop the tendency of not signing the attendance register regularly. The attendance of nurses in the hospitals is satisfactory.
 
Earlier in the morning, the Health Minister visited the Tala Upazila Health Complex in Satkhira. He ordered the temporary suspension of the security guard concerned for negligence in the recent theft incident there. He also announced that administrative action will be taken against a doctor.
 
Highlighting the development plan of the health sector, the minister said that 50-bed hospitals will be upgraded to more than 100-bed capacity in phases. Initiatives have been taken to install 50 dialysis machines in each medical college hospital and 10 in each district hospital. Along with this, modern pathology services will be introduced and upazila health complexes, union health centers and community clinics will be newly developed.
 
During the visit, he spoke to patients admitted in various wards of the hospital. He also inspected the kitchen, bathrooms and the quality of food prepared for the patients.
 
At that time, Satkhira Deputy Commissioner Kausar Aziz, District Council Administrator Md. Habibur Islam, Satkhira 1st constituency MP Muha. Izzat Ullah, 2nd constituency MP Muhaddis Abdul Khalek, Civil Surgeon Abdus Salam, District BNP Convener Rahmatullah Palash, officials from various government and private departments and local political leaders were present.
