HSTU's 6 halls to be renamed, one proposed after Khaleda Zia with Consent

The administration of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) in Dinajpur has decided to rename six residential halls and one academic building.
The matter was announced in an office order signed by the university’s Registrar, M. Jahangir Kabir, on June 2.
The office order proposed renaming Sheikh Sayera Khatun Hall after former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. Additionally, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall has been renamed Bijoy 24 Hall, Tajuddin Ahmad Hall has been renamed Shaheed Abrar Fahad Hall, Sheikh Russel Hall has been renamed Shaheed Noor Hossain Hall, Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall has been renamed Begum Rokeya Hall, Ivy Rahman Hall has been renamed Nawab Faizunnesa Hall, and Dr. M. Wazed Miah Building has been renamed Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam Building.
However, the office order mentioned that the renaming proposal will be finalized subject to the consent of Khaleda Zia’s family members.
Earlier, on May 29, the university’s 59th Regent Board meeting was held. The office order stated that general students involved in the anti-discrimination movement raised demands to rename various halls and buildings. In response to the students’ demands, the administration formed a committee. The committee created a Google form, circulated it among all stakeholders, and consulted with various organizations. Based on the consensus, the names of these halls and buildings were changed, recommended for approval, and presented to the Regent Board, which subsequently approved them.
University Registrar Professor M. Jahangir Kabir said that general students had been demanding the renaming of these halls and buildings since the July uprising. Later, the university’s highest policymaking forum, the Regent Board, approved the changes. The proposal to rename Sheikh Sayera Khatun Hall after Khaleda Zia has been made, and discussions with her family have already begun. If there are no objections, the hall will be named after Khaleda Zia.
