ICT investigation team visits Teknaf over 'Gunfight' killings in July-August Uprising

Tawhidul Islam, Cox's Bazar

As part of the investigation into crimes against humanity, genocide, and extrajudicial killings during the July-August Uprising, an investigation team from the International Crimes Tribunal has begun work in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.

According to sources, over two days — Monday and Tuesday — the investigation team spoke with the families of several victims, including that of the much-discussed Teknaf councillor Ekramul Haque, who was killed in a so-called 'gunfight' with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

Confirming the matter, International Crimes Tribunal prosecutor Md. Saimum Reza Talukder said that a six-member investigation team, including himself, has been working in Teknaf for two days. They are scheduled to leave Teknaf on Tuesday.

He said, As part of the investigation into crimes against humanity, genocide, and extrajudicial killings during the July-August uprising, statements are being taken from the families of Councillor Ekramul Haque and other victims. It is truly tragic that so many people were killed under the guise of a drug war in Teknaf. This could not have happened without government support. Therefore, our main target is to bring to justice those at the top, including the head of government and others who backed these incidents.”

Teknaf Police Station OC  Muhammad Gias Uddin said,  the investigation team is working according to their own procedures. They also visited the police station and gathered information on various matters.
