Iran executes three more for alleged espionage ties to Israel
World Desk
Iran executed three more individuals on Wednesday over accusations of spying for Israel, according to the state-run IRNA news agency, as tensions from the ongoing conflict between the two countries continue to rise.
The executions were carried out at Urmia Prison in West Azerbaijan province, located in Iran’s northwestern region. Iran’s judiciary claimed the men were involved in smuggling “assassination equipment” into the country.
The executed individuals were identified as Azad Shojaei, Edris Aali, and Rasoul Ahmad Rasoul, the latter being an Iraqi national. Human rights watchdog Amnesty International had earlier expressed concern over the fate of the three men, fearing they could face imminent execution.
These latest hangings bring the total number of espionage-related executions linked to the conflict with Israel to six since June 16. Rights groups warn that more executions may follow, particularly after Iranian authorities set a deadline for individuals allegedly involved in espionage to surrender.
The war between Iran and Israel has resulted in significant casualties. According to Iranian officials, 606 people have been killed and 5,332 injured. Meanwhile, Human Rights Activists, a Washington-based group, reported on Wednesday that Israeli strikes had killed at least 1,054 individuals in Iran, including 417 civilians and 318 members of security forces, with 4,476 others injured.
In Israel, at least 28 people have died and over 1,000 have been wounded since the conflict began.
As a fragile ceasefire—negotiated by former U.S. President Donald Trump—appears to be holding, daily life is beginning to resume in parts of Iran. State media reported increased traffic around the Caspian Sea and rural areas near Tehran as residents began returning to the capital.
Tehran, one of the primary targets during the war, endured repeated airstrikes, including attacks aimed at Iran’s senior military leadership and critical infrastructure linked to the country’s ruling regime.
