Joypurhat court imposes travel ban on 18 AL leaders, Including ex-whip, MP in attempted murder cases

A court in Joypurhat has imposed a travel ban on 18 leaders of the Awami League, including a former whip and Member of Parliament, who are accused in murder, attempted murder, and explosives-related cases linked to the anti-discrimination movement on Saturday. 

Joypurhat District and Sessions Court’s Public Prosecutor (PP) Shahnoor Rahman Shahin confirmed the matter.

According to court sources, during the July uprising in Joypurhat, the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Faruk Hossain issued the travel ban on the accused involved in multiple cases, including the murders of students Bishal and Mehedi, attempted murder, and violations of the Explosives Act. The court’s decision followed applications by the investigating officers, Detective Branch (DB) Police Sub-Inspector Jahangir Hossain and Faruk Hossain.

The leaders facing the travel ban, affiliated with the Awami League, Jubo  League, and the banned Chhatra  League, include: Advocate Shamsul Alam Dudu (former MP, Joypurhat-1), former Whip and MP (Joypurhat Sadar-2), Md. Zakir Hossain Mondal (General Secretary, Joypurhat District Awami League), Zakaria Hossain Raja (President, District Student League), Mostafizur Rahman Mostak (Joypurhat Municipality Mayor and Joint General Secretary, District Awami League), Habibur Rahman Habib (former Mayor, Panchbibi Thana, Joypurhat), Md. Minnur Hossain (President, Panchbibi Volunteer League), Mozaffar Hossain (President, Union Parishad Awami League), Saeed Al Mahmud Chandan (Senior Joint General Secretary, Joypurhat Awami League), Md. Golam Mahfuzur Chowdhury (Retired, Joint General Secretary, District Awami League), Minfuzur Rahman Milan (President, Kalai Upazila Awami League and former Kalai Upazila Chairman), Nadim Talukdar (former Alampur Union Parishad Chairman), S.M. Rabiul Alam Chowdhury (former Mohammadpur Union Parishad Chairman, Panchbibi), Rasel Dewan Milan (President, District Jubo  League, Joypurhat), Anam Shawkat Habib Talukdar Logic (Organizing Secretary, District Awami League and former Chairman, Matrai Union, Kalai), Mustakim Mondal (Joint General Secretary, Khetlal Awami League and former Khetlal Upazila Chairman), Md. Abu Bakkar Siddique Reza (General Secretary, District Chhatra  League, Joypurhat), and Md. Khorshed Alam Saikat (Joypurhat Sadar Awami League and Chairman, Puranapail Union Parishad).

The investigating officer for the Bishal and Mehedi murder cases, Joypurhat DB  Police Sub-Inspector Jahangir Hossain, stated that in the interest of investigating the two murder cases, attempted murder, and explosives-related cases involving 18 leaders of the Awami League, Jubo League, and banned Chhatra  League, applications for a travel ban were filed on May 22 by DB Police Sub-Inspectors Jahangir Hossain and Faruk Hossain in  Joypurhat Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.
