JU JCD demands exemplary punishment of Sohag’s murder

JU Correspondent

Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit demanded swift and exemplary punishment for those of  Mohammad Sohag's murder on Saturday.

Protesting the killing , around a hundred JCD leaders held a demonstration at 4:00 pm at the Paribahan Chattar of the campus.

After marching several roads , the protest ended at the University's central Shahid Minar premises.

Addressing the protest, JU JCD convener Jahir Uddin Mohammad Babar said, “The government has failed to restore law and order in the country. Although multiple mob incidents have occurred in different parts of the country, efforts are being made to discredit the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Chhatra Dal through a media trial focusing solely on a single incident in front of Midfort. However, those involved must be brought under law."

Mizanur Rahman, Joint Convener of the JU JCD said, “Due to the deterioration of law enforcement, incidents of extrajudicial killings, extortion, and robbery have increased even more than before. It is deeply unfortunate that we are judging every murder through the lens of political affiliation, which is never the right approach. A murder should always be judged as a murder.”

JU JCD member secretary Wasim Ahmed Anik moderated the demonstration.

On Wednesday, Mohammed Sohag, 39, a scrap trader, was dragged from his Old Dhaka shop in broad daylight and beaten to death near the gate of Mitford Hospital.
